Tata Aeris: Features, Specifications and Performance

The Tata Aeris is a new compact sedan positioned in the Indian market as the successor to the Tigor. It gets a refreshed exterior design, an updated cabin and petrol and CNG powertrain options. The Aeris is available with manual and AMT transmissions and competes in the compact sedan segment against models such as the Maruti Suzuki Dzire, Hyundai Aura and Honda Amaze.

Engine and Performance

The Tata Aeris is powered by a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated three-cylinder petrol engine with a displacement of 1,199 cc. The petrol engine produces around 85 bhp of maximum power and 113 Nm of peak torque. It is available with a 5-speed manual transmission and a 5-speed AMT, with power sent to the front wheels. The petrol version has a claimed fuel efficiency of around 19 kmpl.

The Aeris is also available with a factory-fitted CNG powertrain. The CNG version produces around 74.46 bhp and 96.5 Nm and is offered with a 5-speed manual, with AMT availability also listed for higher variants. CNG mileage is listed at around 26–28 km/kg depending on the transmission and source.

Exterior Design

The Tata Aeris gets a substantially redesigned exterior compared with the Tigor. It features slimmer LED headlamps, a thin DRL strip, LED fog lamps, a redesigned front bumper and revised tail-lamps. The sedan retains a notchback-style roofline while gaining new sheet-metal changes and updated styling elements.

The Aeris measures approximately 3995 mm in length, 1684 mm in width and 1532 mm in height. It has a 2450 mm wheelbase and around 170 mm of ground clearance. Depending on the variant, it gets 14- or 15-inch wheels.

Interior and Comfort

The Tata Aeris gets an updated cabin designed to offer a more modern experience. The dashboard is expected to feature a digital instrument cluster and a freestanding touchscreen infotainment system. The sedan offers seating for five occupants and provides a 419-litre boot, making it practical for everyday family use and luggage carrying.

Higher variants are equipped with features such as automatic climate control, rear AC vents, powered ORVMs, keyless entry, push-button start and fast-charging ports.

Features and Technology

The Aeris gets a technology-focused equipment package on higher variants. Features include a large touchscreen infotainment system, digital driver's display, wireless smartphone connectivity, wireless charging, connected-car technology and a built-in dashcam. A 360-degree camera is also available on higher variants.

The sedan also offers cruise control, tyre-pressure monitoring and other convenience features depending on the variant. The dual-screen dashboard and integrated camera system give the Aeris a more modern cabin layout.

Safety

Safety equipment on the Tata Aeris includes six airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, rear parking sensors and a rear-view camera, with higher variants offering additional camera and parking-assistance technology. The model is built on a monocoque chassis and uses MacPherson struts at the front with a torsion-beam setup at the rear.

Dimensions and Practicality

The Tata Aeris is approximately 3995 mm long, 1684 mm wide and 1532 mm tall, with a 2450 mm wheelbase. Its 170 mm ground clearance is suited to typical Indian road conditions, while the 419-litre boot provides useful luggage capacity. The petrol version has a 35-litre fuel tank, while CNG variants use a factory-fitted CNG tank alongside the petrol system.
