Maruti Suzuki Dzire

Everyone assumes the Suzuki Dzire sells because it's a Maruti. That's half the story. Dzire is also the first Maruti car to score a five start safety rating at Global NCAP. And one of very few cars at ₹6.25 lakh that give you six airbags, ESP and ISOFIX as standard. 

But the compromises are real too: 82 PS, a noisy three-cylinder, no diesel, no ADAS. So I ranked all nine variants, went through the crash reports and worked out the real running costs. By the end, you'll know whether it's the right time to book the Dzire or walk away.

Maruti Dzire Price and On-road Cost

Maruti Dzire car price in India begins at ₹6,25,600 for the base LXi and tops out at ₹9,36,300 for the ZXi+ AMT (ex-showroom). Your Maruti Dzire on-road price in India will be higher once you add insurance, registration and road tax. In Delhi, the on-road price starts at roughly ₹7.27 lakh.

Here's the timing bit that matters. The GST cut in September 2025 made the Dzire ₹58,000 to ₹88,000 cheaper overnight. Maruti then raised prices by up to ₹7,500 in June 2026. And it has announced another hike of up to ₹30,000 from August 2026.

Which Dzire Variant Should You Buy?

There are nine Dzire variants across petrol and CNG. The LXi priced at ₹6.26 lakh is the Dzire base model. It looks basic, but you still get six airbags and ESP. VXi at ₹7.22 lakh is where the car starts to feel complete: touchscreen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, push-button start, and auto climate control.

ZXi at ₹8.23 lakh is my pick. The Maruti Dzire ZXi price gets you LED headlamps, alloy wheels, cruise control, fog lamps, a rear AC vent and Suzuki Connect. For most families, this is the sweet spot.

ZXi+ at ₹8.91 lakh adds the electric sunroof, a 9-inch screen, a 360-degree camera and wireless charging. Nice to have. But you're paying about ₹69,000 extra for them. Only go for the Maruti Suzuki Dzire ZXi+ if those features genuinely excite you.

Want a Dzire automatic? A 5-speed AMT is offered on VXi, ZXi and ZXi+. CNG is limited to VXi and ZXi, and it's manual only.

Engine, Mileage and Running Cost

Under the bonnet sits a 1.2-litre, three-cylinder Z-Series petrol engine. It makes 82 PS and 112 Nm. You get a 5-speed manual or the AMT.

The Dzire mileage figures are the headline. Maruti claims 24.79 kmpl for the petrol manual and 25.71 kmpl for the AMT. The Dzire CNG mileage is a claimed 33.73 km/kg. In real city driving, expect somewhere around 18 to 21 kmpl on petrol. That's still excellent.

If you drive 1,000 km a month, this car will cost you very little to feed. Dzire service costs are low too, and Maruti's service network reaches almost everywhere.

Now the honest part. This engine has three cylinders, and you can hear it. Push it hard and it gets noisy and a bit buzzy. The AMT is convenient but not smooth — it shifts up early and nudges you in stop-go traffic. Neither is a deal-breaker for calm city driving. Both will annoy you if you enjoy driving fast.

Safety Features of Maruti Suzuki Dzire

Safety is the strongest reason to buy one. The Dzire has a five-star safety rating for adult occupant protection from both Global NCAP and Bharat NCAP. Child occupant protection earned five stars at Bharat NCAP and four at Global NCAP. It was the first Maruti ever to score a full five stars at Global NCAP.

Better still, the safety kit is standard. Every single Dzire, including the ₹6.25 lakh LXi, gets six airbags, ESP, hill-hold assist, ABS with EBD and ISOFIX child seat mounts. You don't have to spend more to be safe. Very few cars at this price can say that.

Space, Comfort and Practicality

The Dzire boot space is 382 litres. That's genuinely big for a car under four metres. A family's holiday luggage fits without argument.

Dzire ground clearance is 163 mm, which is enough for most Indian speed breakers and rough patches. The 2,450 mm wheelbase gives decent kneeroom in the back. Five people fit.

The cabin looks smart, with a dual-tone dashboard and silver trim. It feels pricier than it is.

But two things bothered me. Rear headroom is tight if you're taller than about 5'10", partly because of the sunroof. And there's no front centre armrest, no auto-dimming mirror and only fabric seats, even on the top variant. Small things, but you notice them daily.

Dzire colours run to seven monotone shades: Gallant Red, Alluring Blue, Nutmeg Brown, Bluish Black, Pearl Arctic White, Magma Grey and Splendid Silver.

Maruti Suzuki Dzire Vs Competitors

In a Dzire vs Amaze fight, the Honda feels a touch more grown-up to drive but starts higher, at around ₹7.5 lakh. The Hyundai Aura undercuts the Dzire slightly and the Tata Tigor is cheaper still, from about ₹5.55 lakh.

Where the Suzuki Dzire wins is the combination. Best-in-class fuel economy, five-star safety across the range, the biggest boot, and the strongest resale value of the four. That last point saves you real money in three years.

Final Verdict

Buy it if you're a first-time car buyer, you mostly drive in the city, you want low running costs, or you cover big distances and want CNG. Buy it if safety per rupee matters most to you. Nearly half of new Dzire buyers are young first-time owners, and that makes sense.

Skip it if you enjoy spirited driving, you want diesel or ADAS, or your family regularly carries tall rear passengers.

So, is the Dzire worth buying? Yes. It isn't exciting, and it doesn't try to be. It's a sensible, safe, frugal car that will cost you very little to own and sell well later. The new Dzire in 2026 is a smart head decision, not a heart one.
