Launched in 2015, the Hyundai Creta has been the best selling mid size 5 seater SUV. Creta car gives you three engine options: a 1.5-litre petrol, a stronger 1.5-litre turbo-petrol, and a 1.5-litre diesel, paired with a manual, CVT, automatic, or 7-speed DCT depending on the variant. The Hyundai Creta gets six airbags, ABS, and electronic stability control as standard. Move up the range and you get a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, a 360-degree camera, Level 2 ADAS, and Hyundai's Bluelink connected features. It is a 5-seater car with a 433-litre boot for daily use and 190mm of ground clearance for Indian roads. A bigger, K3-platform Creta is expected later this year, but for now, this remains one of the best-equipped mid-size SUVs you can buy.

CarzOnWheel's in-depth analysis of Hyundai Creta
Hyundai has sold over 1.5 million Creta Units worldwide and has been India's best-selling midsize SUV since its launch in July 2015. The reason is quite simple : Creta is the only car in its price range that offers the most balanced combination of premium features, comfort, reliability, and brand trust.
But this is not the full picture here. If you want better drivability, low running cost, bigger size and power, then you might need to think otherwise.
Let’s see what our expert review says about the Hyundai Creta after testing it and digging into the real insights of Creta owners.
The Hyundai Creta car price in India starts at ₹10.79 lakh for the base E petrol and goes up to ₹20.20 lakh for the top variant. Its lineup includes around 86 variant combinations across ten trim names: E, EX, EX(O), S, S(O), SX, SX(O), Knight Edition, King Edition, and Summer Edition. One key thing to note : The Hyundai Creta does not offer a hybrid or CNG option yet.
Starting with the E and EX trims, priced under ₹13 lakh, include six airbags, ABS, and electronic stability control, but only a basic touchscreen and cloth seats.
The S and S(O) trims, priced between ₹14 lakh and ₹16 lakh, add a panoramic sunroof, wireless charging, and a 10.25-inch touchscreen.
The SX and SX(O) trims, priced from ₹17 lakh, add Level 2 ADAS, a 360-degree camera, and ventilated front seats.
The King Edition, priced from ₹17.89 lakh, includes the full feature list Hyundai offers on this car.
Hyundai Creta on road price is higher by 12 to 18 percent, depending on your state RTO registration, road tax, and insurance. In Delhi (for example), the most popular Creta SX on-road price comes around ₹ 15.25-15.6 lakh.
This could be the best time to buy the Creta car because Hyundai has announced a discount of up to ₹1 lakh on Creta’s petrol and diesel variants in June 2026.
The Hyundai Creta comes with a sharper front end with connected LED daytime running lights and a more upright grille compared to the pre-2024 model. You have 9 colour options to choose from, depending on the variant.
Hyundai Creta dimensions measure 4,330mm in length, 1,790mm in width, and 1,635mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,610mm and a ground clearance of 190mm. But the styling updates make the Creta look larger than it is on road.
The dashboard wraps around the driver and front passenger, with twin 10.25-inch screens for the touchscreen and the digital instrument cluster. The cabin uses light dual-tone materials and has a large glass area, which makes the interior feel bigger.
We noticed that on some variants, the screens sit lower than ideal. If you are a taller driver, you will need a slight downward glance while driving. The fit and finish in some areas, such as the piano-black trim around the centre console, is not the best in this segment.
Every Creta variant, including the base E, comes with six airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, hill-start assist, and a tyre pressure monitor as standard. From the SX trim upward, the Creta car gets Hyundai's Level 2 ADAS system, which includes forward collision warning, lane-keep assist, blind-spot alerts, and adaptive cruise control that works in slow-moving traffic.
The current facelifted Creta has not yet been independently crash-tested by Bharat NCAP or Global NCAP. The earlier, pre-facelift Creta scored 3 stars for adult protection and 3 stars for child protection in a 2022 Global NCAP test, conducted with 2 airbags. For comparison, the Volkswagen Taigun and Skoda Kushaq scored 5 stars for both adult and child protection under Global NCAP's stricter 2022 testing protocol.
So, if you prioritise independently verified crash-test data, you should consider this point.
The Creta is available with three engines:
1. A 115hp 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol,
2. 116hp 1.5-litre diesel and
3. A 160hp 1.5-litre turbo-petrol.
The turbo-petrol is paired only with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The naturally aspirated petrol comes with a manual or CVT automatic, and the diesel comes with a manual or 6-speed automatic.
The ride is composed over city potholes and highway expansion joints. Steering is light, which makes the car easy to manoeuvre in city traffic. Body roll increases noticeably when the car is driven hard through sharp turns, so it is better suited to comfortable daily driving than spirited driving.
Hyundai Creta mileage figures are 17.4 kmpl for the petrol manual, 17.7 to 18.4 kmpl for the petrol automatic and turbo-petrol, 19.1 kmpl for the Creta diesel automatic, and 21.8 kmpl for the diesel manual. Real-world Hyundai Creta mileage on the turbo-petrol typically drops into the low teens in heavy city traffic.
But if you are concerned about the running cost, we recommend you to consider the Toyota Hyryder or Maruti Grand Vitara, which use a strong hybrid system and claim 27.97 kmpl.
The Creta is a 5-seater car. The rear seat space is enough for three adults to sit. But the rear seat does not have a headrest for the middle passenger, a gap that has remained through multiple facelifts. ISOFIX child seat mounts are present on both outer rear seats.
Boot space is 433 litres. This is enough for soft bags and weekend luggage, but a full set of hard suitcases for a family trip will be a tight fit.
The panoramic sunroof is available from the S(O) trim upward. Dual-zone climate control, ventilated front seats, and wireless charging are available on higher trims. Top-spec variants also include a 360-degree camera, Hyundai's Bluelink connected car system with over-the-air updates, and an 8-speaker Bose sound system. You have to be cautious about the front condenser which shouldn’t collect dust because it can drop AC performance in extreme heat.
Hyundai offers a standard warranty of 3 years with unlimited kilometres on the Creta, extendable up to 7 years or 1.5 lakh km. Service intervals are every 10,000 km or 12 months, whichever comes first. The first service is free.
Routine service costs at an authorised centre typically range from ₹3,500 to ₹5,500 for petrol variants, with diesel and turbo-petrol variants costing 15 to 25 percent more due to additional filters and fluids.
The Creta holds strong resale value in India due to its sales volume and the size of Hyundai's service network, which includes more than 1,400 authorised centres across the country.
Hyundai launched the Creta in India on July 21, 2015, and it became a benchmark in the mid size SUV category.
The first Hyundai Creta facelift was introduced in 2018, bringing a refreshed front grille, updated bumpers, and new alloy wheel designs.
The second-generation Creta arrived in 2020 with a larger body and a new platform.
Creta crossed 500,000 domestic sales in August 2020, five years after launch.
It surpassed 1 million in cumulative sales in India in February 2024.
The latest facelift of Hyundai Creta launched on January 16, 2024, bringing:
New 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine
Level 2 ADAS
Panoramic sunroof
Dual 10.25-inch screens
Redesigned cabin
The 2024 Hyundai Creta facelift became the fastest-selling Creta generation, reaching 100,000 sales in six months.
Hyundai introduced the Creta Electric in 2025, marking the model's first all-electric version.
The GST 2.0 tax reform in September 2025 reduced Creta prices by up to ₹72,145.
Hyundai launched the King Edition in September 2025 as the most feature-loaded Creta variant.
2025 became Creta's best-ever sales year, crossing 200,000 annual sales for the first time.
Hyundai launched the Creta Summer Edition in April 2026.
The Hyundai Creta offers a wide choice of engines, a well-equipped cabin, strong resale value, and the largest Hyundai service network in India.
Two things are worth knowing before you decide:
One: The current model has not been independently crash-tested yet, and rivals like the Volkswagen Taigun and Skoda Kushaq carry verified 5-star safety ratings.
Two: If your daily driving is mostly in heavy traffic and running cost matters most, a hybrid SUV like the Toyota Hyryder will cost less to run than any Creta car variant.
But if you are looking for a comfortable, feature-rich family SUV with dependable ownership costs, the Creta is our top pick in 2026 at its price.
