These Are the Top 3 SUV Cars You Can Get in India in Less Than ₹10 Lakh

Walk into any dealership in India today with ₹10 lakh in hand and you will walk out with more car than you bargained for. This ₹10 lakh budget gets you a 5-star crash rating, a turbocharged engine pushing past 120 PS, Level 2 ADAS, a panoramic sunroof and much more.

Three compact SUVs have done something the ₹10 lakh SUV segment was not supposed to pull off: they have made it genuinely hard to justify spending more.

Tata Punch: India's Most Affordable 5-Star Rated SUV

The Tata Punch earned its name on safety, and it has not let that go. The outgoing version holds a 5-star Global NCAP rating. The 2026 facelift, launched in January, scored 5 stars in Bharat NCAP testing with an adult occupant protection score of 30.58 out of 32. That kind of number does not belong in the sub-₹10 lakh bracket. But there it is.

The bigger news for 2026 is the turbo petrol engine most buyers had been patiently waiting for. 120 PS. 170 Nm. Available in variants priced under ₹9.04 lakh ex-showroom. The earlier naturally aspirated 1.2-litre unit was fine for cities but ran visibly short of breath past 80 kmph on highways. The turbo resolves that entirely.

Real-world owners of the NA engine currently report 14 to 16 kmpl in city traffic and 17 to 18 kmpl on open roads. CNG buyers get a claimed 26.99 km/kg. Prices begin at ₹5.59 lakh and top out at ₹9.04 lakh ex-showroom, which gives you one of the widest entry ranges under a ₹10 lakh budget.

Mahindra XUV 3XO: Most Powerful Sub-₹10 Lakh SUV

Starting at ₹7.28 lakh ex-showroom, the Mahindra XUV 3XO comes with a feature list that looks like it belongs in a car priced at least ₹18 lakh.

A panoramic sunroof. Six airbags standard across all variants. Level 2 ADAS with adaptive cruise control and lane-keep assist. Four-wheel disc brakes. A 360-degree camera. And the 1.2-litre TGDi engine producing 130 PS and 230 Nm of torque, the highest power output in the sub-4m SUV class.

Bharat NCAP tested this XUV 3XO in November 2024. Five stars. Ground clearance is a capable 201 mm. Diesel variants return up to 21.2 kmpl on ARAI testing, and real-world owners consistently report 17 to 19 kmpl on highway runs.

On-road price of Mahindra XUV 3XO starts at around ₹8.47 lakh for the base variant, keeping most of the range well within budget. The XUV 3XO is the answer if you want to tick every box before you hand over the cheque.

Hyundai Venue: A Full New Generation Under ₹10 Lakh

The Hyundai Venue 2025 is not a facelift. Hyundai rebuilt the car from the ground up and it shows. Wider body. Dual 12.3-inch curved panoramic displays powered by NVIDIA. A 375-litre boot. Level 2 ADAS with 16 active safety functions including auto emergency braking and adaptive cruise control. The chassis uses more ultra-high strength steel, and the car earned a 5-star Bharat NCAP rating shortly after launch. Prices start at ₹7.90 lakh ex-showroom for the 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol.

The 1.0-litre turbo petrol (118 PS, 172 Nm) is where most buyers land, and it makes sense. ARAI mileage is 18.74 kmpl for the manual and a very strong 20 kmpl for the 7-speed DCT automatic.

First-time SUV buyers who value refinement, a genuinely premium cabin feel, and Hyundai's wide service coverage will find the Venue to be the most polished overall package at this price. The 1 lakh booking milestone since launch is not an accident.

So Which One Should You Actually Buy in 2026?

Safety on the tightest budget? The Tata Punch.
Maximum features per rupee? The Mahindra XUV 3XO.
Best all-round package with strong resale and a refined drive? The Hyundai Venue.

But before you sign anything, add ₹1 to ₹1.5 lakh to the ex-showroom price for registration, insurance, and road tax. That figure never shows up in the advertisement. Your ₹10 lakh budget will still comfortably cover at least one strong variant of each of these three. And that’s genuinely good news.
