Oct 2025 EV Sales: 57% Growth Led by Mahindra, Hyundai, Kia

Electric car sales in India are skyrocketing. October 2025 saw a huge 57% year-on-year growth. This surge is being led by massive gains from Mahindra, Hyundai, and Kia.

While Tata Motors is still the king, the competition is heating up fast.

The Overall Picture is Bright

The electric passenger vehicle sector is growing rapidly.

A total of 18,055 electric cars were sold in October 2025. That's up from 11,464 units in the same month last year. This is a very strong 57.49% year-on-year growth.

The market share for EVs now sits at 3.2%. This shows more and more Indians are making the electric switch.

The Star Performers in Electric Cars

Mahindra's new EVs are a runaway success.

Mahindra & Mahindra saw an incredible 309% growth. They sold 3,911 units in October. The success of the XUV 9e and BE 6 is clearly driving this phenomenal jump.

Hyundai Motor India grew an astonishing 1,133%. They sold 444 units, up from just 36 last year. The new Hyundai Creta Electric is their major contributor.

Kia India takes the crown for highest percentage growth. They grew by 1,295%. This is almost entirely thanks to their new electric SUV, the Kia Carens Clavis EV.

The Steady Leader and Strong Contenders

Tata Motors continues to dominate the EV market.

Tata Motors sold 7,239 electric cars in October. This gave them a steady 9.53% growth. Models like the Tata Nexon EV and Tata Curvv EV keep them firmly in the number one spot.

MG Motor India also had a great month. They posted a solid 63% growth with 4,549 units sold. The MG ZS EV and MG Comet EV continue to be popular choices.

A Reality Check for Premium Brands

Not every brand shared in the success.

Some premium brands saw their sales fall. Mercedes-Benz and Stellantis (Citroën) saw sharp declines. Even Tesla saw a significant drop in sales compared to the previous month.

The mass market is clearly driving this EV revolution. Luxury brands are struggling to keep pace.
