These upcoming electric cars promise over 500 km of range and premium features, but real-world driving could tell a different story.
Tata first showed the Sierra as a concept at the 2020 Auto Expo. Six years later, it finally has a launch window. And it's not arriving alone. Three of the most talked-about upcoming electric cars in India are landing before 2026 ends, spread across three brands at sharply different prices. One could be the cheapest Kia EV available.
Tata Sierra EV: Most Awaited Upcoming Tata Electric Car
Tata's CEO Shailesh Chandra has confirmed the Sierra EV will arrive between July and September 2026, slotting above the Curvv EV and just under the Harrier EV. The petrol and diesel Sierra lands first, with the EV close behind. Expect ex-showroom pricing near ₹20 to ₹25 lakh, so add a lakh or more for on-road cost.
Sierra EV rides on Tata's Acti.ev+ platform, with battery packs close to those of the Harrier EV and a claimed range beyond 500 km. A dual-motor all-wheel-drive version is likely on the top trim. The boxy 90s shape is back, now with a full-width light bar and a glass roof. If you loved the original, this one's built for you.
Kia Syros EV: The Upcoming EV Under ₹20 Lakh
Kia confirmed the Syros EV for a July 2026 debut in its own investor presentation, and it becomes the brand's cheapest electric car in India. Pricing should start near ₹14 lakh ex-showroom and stretch to around ₹20 lakh. It shares its K1 platform with the Hyundai Inster sold abroad, and you get two battery options, roughly 42 kWh and 49 kWh, with a claimed 473 km on the bigger pack. A 10 to 80 percent fast charge takes close to an hour, and it supports V2L, so you can run a kettle or a laptop off the car. Built at Kia's Anantapur plant, it is the rival of Tata Nexon EV and MG Windsor EV.
BYD Atto 2: The Affordable BYD Electric SUV Coming to India
The BYD Atto 2 launches in 2026 near ₹18 to ₹25 lakh, using BYD's Blade battery and a 45 kWh pack good for a claimed 312 to 420 km. It also gets a panoramic sunroof and a 400-litre boot, decent for a car this size. In real Delhi traffic, with the AC fighting a 43-degree afternoon, knock 20 to 30 percent off every claimed figure. That 473 km Kia? Closer to 330 km once you're on the road. So judge these cars on real-world range, never the showroom sticker. BYD builds the Atto 2 in Tamil Nadu and competes with the Hyundai Creta Electric, and local assembly is the only thing keeping its price sane against steep import duties.
