Petrol & Diesel Cars Banned in Another State – Is Yours Next?

Car buyers in Delhi have already had a tough time dealing with the bans on petrol and diesel vehicles. And now, another state is gearing up to impose similar restrictions. Madhya Pradesh, following in the footsteps of Delhi, is all set to ban internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles to combat growing pollution. But what does this mean for vehicle owners, Let’s find out!

Car Ban

After years, Madhya Pradesh is ready to make a move. Reports suggest that the state is planning to ban 10 year old diesel vehicles and 15 year old petrol vehicles. The reason behind this is that pollution levels in the state’s major cities have reached alarming levels. During a recent high-level meeting, ministers discussed the possibility of implementing this ban to improve air quality.

What happens if the ban goes through, Here’s the deal:

If this proposal is finalized, petrol and diesel won’t be sold to these vehicles, and they won’t be eligible for fitness certificates either. This ban is expected to apply to both private and commercial vehicles, meaning a lot of cars could be taken off the roads.

Although the proposal is still in the works, this move could make Madhya Pradesh the second state, after Delhi, to impose such restrictions on old petrol and diesel cars. As of now, there’s no confirmation on when this ban might take effect, but it’s expected to roll out soon after the final decision is made by state authorities.

Which Other States Are Heading Towards A Car Ban

While Delhi was the first to enforce a ban on older ICE vehicles, Madhya Pradesh might not be the last. Maharashtra was previously rumored to be next in line due to the rising pollution in Mumbai. However, it seems Madhya Pradesh is pushing ahead with its plans first. With air quality declining across India, more states may soon follow suit, making it harder for older cars to remain on the road.
