Tata Sierra Variants

Variants Information

Tata Sierra was a unique beast, way before SUVs were the go-to option for Indian buyers. With its unique three-door body style, wraparound rear glass, and a cabin brimming with features, the Sierra was a force to be reckoned with on Indian roads in the 90s. It was fully built on Tata Motors' pick-up platform. The Sierra was launched in 1991 and was equipped with a 2.0-litre diesel engine. It was more than just a utility vehicle – it was a statement of Tata’s intent to build a perfect lifestyle SUV for Indian buyers. The Sierra allowed drivers to dream about what the future of the automobile would be, at a time when things like power windows, air-conditioning, and a luxurious cabin experience were a world away from being standard in sport utility vehicles. While the Sierra had gained a loyal fanbase, the Sierra was discontinued in 2003 as it was overshadowed by more usable five-door SUVs. Yet, there was a nostalgia that the name never left motorsport enthusiasts’ minds. The potential of its comeback was first rumoured a few years ago and finally confirmed at the 2020 Auto Expo, with Tata Motors displaying the Sierra Concept. Evoking iconic design elements from the original model and taking them to the future, the concept was among the standout vehicles at the show. New Tata Sierra launched with a price starting at ₹11.49 lakh after years of development and tremendous anticipation. Available in 24 variants, the SUV is powered by multiple engine options of 1.5-litre, including a triple-screen dashboard, panoramic sunroof, connected car technology, and Level 2 ADAS (on specific variants). The new Sierra has also been backed with a 5-star Bharat NCAP crash-test rating in March 2026. More than three decades after the original model debuted, the Sierra has evolved from a niche lifestyle SUV into a contemporary family SUV while retaining the heritage that made it special. The story is set to continue with the arrival of the all-electric Tata Sierra, scheduled for launch on 30 June 2026.
