Tata Harrier EV Launches in India Today: Price, Features, Range & More

Tata Motors has launched the new Tata Harrier EV in India today, a turning point for the nation's electric vehicle (EV) space. The Harrier EV is the most advanced and premium electric SUV of the company so far, blending cutting-edge technology, aggressive styling, and uncompromising performance. The car's launch is a reflection of the company's intention to bolster its EV line for urban commuters as well as SUV aficionados looking for green options.

Tata Harrier EV is based on the company's new Acti.ev+ platform, which is a purpose-built electric vehicle platform. The new architecture provides better structural rigidity, more compact battery packaging, and enhanced handling. The SUV is based on a monocoque chassis taken from the Land Rover D8-derived OMEGA architecture, a renowned entity for rigidity and dynamic driving character. This Jaguar Land Rover co-developed platform provides the Harrier EV with a solid foundation, with the added nimbleness to handle Indian roads.

Performance-wise, the Harrier EV comes with a dual-motor all-wheel-drive (AWD) setup that produces a whopping torque value of 500 Nm. This powertrain provides excellent on-road vigor and off-road capability and is appropriate for a combination of driving conditions. Tata Motors says the Harrier EV will possess a real-world range of about 500 kilometers from a single charge, which would make it one of the longest-range EVs in India in its category. In a recent demonstration of its ability, the Harrier EV climbed Kerala's Elephant Rock in an impressive display of its Boost Mode and Rock Crawl Mode, two of its high-end drive modes tailored for difficult terrain.

The EV's design remains faithful to the aggressive and bulbous demeanor of its ICE equivalent, with EV-specific features that add to its otherworldly charm. The front has a shut-off grille for aerodynamic optimality, a fresh styled bumper, and a thin full-width LED DRL strip. The rear is minimalist and cutting-edge, just like Tata's new EV design language. The SUV rides on distinctive alloy wheels that round out its electric appearance.

Within the Harrier EV's interior, there's a high-end experience and a plethora of high-end features. There is a large 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment display, a digital instrument panel, wireless phone connectivity, a panoramic sunroof, and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). The interior room has been crafted using high-end materials and ergonomically thoughtful design to appeal to both tech-users and family car shoppers.

Price-wise, the Tata Harrier EV will probably be in the range of ₹24 lakh to ₹30 lakh (ex-showroom), which fits right within the premium mid-size SUV bracket. It directly competes with other electric SUVs such as the Mahindra XUV.e9 and the BYD Atto 3 at this price point. With range, performance, styling, and feature package combined, the Harrier EV will appeal to customers who want a stylish and capable electric SUV in the ₹25-30 lakh category.

With the introduction of the Harrier EV, Tata Motors is further establishing its roots in India's electric vehicle market, where it is already dominant. This fresh addition to its list of existing EVs is designed to cater to an even larger segment of customers, particularly those who are seeking a full-size SUV with electric leanings. The Harrier EV also promises the opportunity for future Tata EVs on the Acti.ev+ platform to be tougher and more versatile electric options soon.
