Next-Gen BMW X5 Spied with New Design

Next-Gen BMW X5 Spied with New Design

Our spy photographers have caught the next-generation BMW X5 testing, and this time, the camouflage is starting to slip. The big news? A fresh face inspired by BMW's radical Neue Klasse concepts and a confirmation that it will offer every powertrain you can imagine. This isn't just a minor update; it's the X5 preparing for a multi-fuel future.

New Upgrades in Design?

The prototype is still wrapped, but key details are emerging. The most obvious change is at the front and rear, where the lighting signatures are completely new. The headlights and tail lights appear slimmer and more graphic, pulling clear inspiration from the visionary Neue Klasse design language. This gives the SUV a more modern and sophisticated stance. While the look is new, it’s expected to ride on an evolution of the current CLAR platform. This smart move should ensure the X5 retains its superb driving dynamics while benefiting from new tech.

What Powertrains Will Be Available?

This is where the next X5 gets really interesting. BMW is planning to offer a powertrain for every kind of buyer. You can expect familiar petrol and diesel options, more powerful and efficient plug-in hybrid (PHEV) variants, and even a fully electric (BEV) model. The current 3.0-liter inline-six engine will likely carry over for the gasoline versions. But the biggest story is the confirmed arrival of a hydrogen fuel-cell (FCEV) variant. BMW is already piloting its HyMOS (Hydrogen Mobility at Scale) project in Europe, and the X5 will be a key model to bring this technology to market.

When Will the BMW X5 be Available?

Based on BMW's development cycle, the next-generation BMW X5 is expected to make its global debut sometime in 2028. Following that, it should arrive in dealerships as a 2029 model. While pricing is still a long way off, expect it to be competitive with rivals like the Mercedes-Benz GLA and Audi Q7.

The next X5 is shaping up to be the most versatile and technologically advanced model in its history. It aims to be the one SUV that can do it all, whether you're loyal to internal combustion, ready to go fully electric, or looking ahead to a hydrogen future. Stay tuned for more spy shots and details as its 2028 launch date approaches.
