The legend is back and it's going green. Toyota has unveiled the all-new, ninth-generation Hilux. For the first time ever, the rugged pickup will be available as a fully electric vehicle.

Production for this revolutionary Hilux begins in December 2025.

The All-New Electric Hilux

Toyota isn't softening its off-road hero. The electric version maintains the rugged build that made the Toyota Hilux famous. It uses a clever Multi-Terrain Select system to handle rough terrain, replacing the traditional low-range gearbox.

It's powered by a 59.2 kWh battery pack. Toyota estimates a real-world driving range of around 240 km. The e-Axles provide 715 kg of payload and 1,600 kg of towing capacity.

The Powerful Plug-In Hybrid Option

For those who need more range, there's a diesel PHEV. This version combines a 48V system with the proven 2.8-litre diesel engine. It offers serious utility. It can tow up to 3,500 kg and carry nearly one tonne of payload.

It retains serious off-road specs. This includes a 700 mm water-wading capability.

A High-Tech Cabin Overhaul of Toyota Hilux

The interior gets a massive modern upgrade. Gone is the old, utilitarian cabin. The new Hilux features a modern dashboard with a large 12.3-inch touchscreen. It is paired with an equally large 12.3-inch fully digital driver's display.

It also adds modern amenities like a wireless charger, blind-spot monitor, and a driver monitoring system.

The Final Word

Toyota is successfully future-proofing an icon. The new Hilux manages to embrace electrification without compromising its core identity of toughness and reliability.

It sets a new benchmark for what a capable, electric workhorse can be.
