Kia PV5 Brand's Entry into Japan Mobility Show 2025
Kia is doing something no one expected in Japan. Discover the clever new electric van designed to transform city mobility and challenge the status quo.

The Korean automaker is making its big move. The Kia PV5 is set to debut at the 2025 Japan Mobility Show, marking the brand's official entry into the Japanese market.
Kia has never sold cars new in Japan before. This is a major first.
The brand is partnering with the Sojitz Group to form a new company, Kia PBV Japan.
They have an aggressive plan. The goal is to open eight dealerships and 100 service centers in the first year alone. This shows Kia is serious about building a real presence, not just testing the waters.
What Exactly is the KIA PV5?
The PV5 is not a normal car. It is what Kia calls a Platform Beyond Vehicle (PBV). Think of it as a flexible electric van designed for a specific job.
It will be built on a dedicated electric vehicle platform called E-GMP.S. This architecture is made specifically for commercial and service vehicles.
It is coming in three main versions. You will be able to get a cargo van, a passenger van, and a wheelchair-accessible model. This covers a lot of needs right from the start.
Key Specs of KIA PV5
Let's talk numbers. For business owners, range is everything.
The Cargo model promises up to 528 km of range on a full charge. This is based on the WLTC test cycle. It uses a 71.2 kWh battery.
Maneuverability in tight city streets is crucial. The PV5 boasts a very tight 5.5-meter turning radius. This should make it surprisingly agile.
The Passenger variant gets up to 521 km of range. It also focuses on easy access. It features a low 399 mm step-in height and wide doors.
The Flexible Body System
This is the PV5's party trick. Kia calls it a "flexible body system."
It can support up to 16 different configurations. The idea is that the vehicle can be tailored for different uses. A delivery driver, a taxi service, and a mobile workshop could all use the same base vehicle in different ways.
Kia says it's "not just a vehicle, but a mobility platform." This sounds like marketing talk. But the underlying idea is practical. It is about creating a vehicle that can adapt to your specific business needs.
Sales of the PV5 are expected to begin in the first half of 2026. A larger model, the PV7, will follow in 2027.
