Honda City Sport Edition Reaches Dealerships: Sporty New Look, Same Performance

Honda Cars India has begun delivering the new City Sport Edition to car dealers nationwide. This special version costs ₹14.89 lakh (before taxes and registration) and focuses on giving the popular four-door car a more athletic appearance through visual and cabin upgrades, while keeping the same engine and transmission.

The City Sport Edition is based on the V CVT version of the standard fifth-generation Honda City. It is powered by the same trusty 1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol engine generating 119 horsepower and 145 Nm of tugging capacity, mated exclusively with a 7-speed CVT automatic gearbox. The powertrain and mechanical components are the same.

The sport edition's greatest attraction is its visual upgrades. The outside has a darkened front grille, black side mirrors, a black roof antenna, and a glossy black rear wing. The metal wheels are also black, and the trunk has a special Sport designation to indicate its individuality. Three paint colors: Platinum White Pearl, Radiant Red Metallic, and Meteoroid Gray Metallic, are available for the purchasers to choose from.

Within the City Sport receives thoughtful enhancements. These are black artificial leather seats with red trim, red-accented dashboard and door panels, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and gear selector, and mood lighting. These add to a more premium, sporty ambiance within the otherwise plain interior.

The Sport Edition has decent technology options. It features an 8-inch touchscreen entertainment system that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, voice commands, automatic air conditioning, a 4-speaker audio system, and a digital information display. Honda's Sensing Suite (Level 2 driver assistance) is also available, which offers lane-keeping assistance, smart cruise control, and automatic emergency braking.

The City Sport has an ARAI-tested fuel efficiency of 18.4 kilometers per liter, which makes it an economical choice in the premium sedan segment. Honda has not made a formal announcement regarding the number of units planned, but informed sources in the industry say this is a limited edition model, intended to drive traffic into dealerships and give customers something fresh without opening up a whole new model.

The Honda City Sport Edition will be competing with higher-spec models of the Hyundai Verna, Skoda Slavia, and Volkswagen Virtus, all of which have seen recent facelifts or special editions. While the upgrades are cosmetic only, they may appeal to customers looking for a more thrilling appearance for their vehicle.
