2026 Volkswagen Taigun Facelift Launched At Rs 11 Lakh in India
Five years after its debut, the Taigun finally gets its first facelift. Sharper face, smoother gearbox, and a buyback guarantee that is hard to ignore if you are buying before May 31.
The old Taigun had a problem. Its 1.0-litre automatic used a six-speed torque converter that felt sluggish in city traffic. City buyers, who make up a big chunk of Taigun sales, kept choosing rivals over that gearbox. Volkswagen heard them. The 2026 Taigun facelift replaces it with a new 8-speed unit, and that one change alone could shift the needle in this segment.
Launched on April 14, 2026, the updated Taigun is priced from Rs 11 lakh to Rs 19.3 lakh (ex-showroom). Seven variants, two engines, and nine colour choices. There is a lot to unpack here.

Up front, the Taigun now wears a full-width connected LED DRL bar. It merges with the headlamps on both sides. The illuminated Volkswagen logo sits at the centre of that bar. Same treatment at the rear, where connected LED tail lamps get the lit-up logo as well.
It is a clean update. Not a revolution, but it gives the car a noticeably more premium street presence, especially at night. The inspiration is clearly the Tiguan, and that is not a bad thing. New 17-inch alloy designs and a reworked front bumper complete the look.
Two new colours join the lineup: Avocado Pearl and Steel Grey. The full palette now has nine shades to pick from.
2026 Volkswagen Taigun Facelift Engine and Gearbox
The 1.0-litre TSI petrol continues, making 114hp and 178Nm. But the key upgrade is the new 8-speed torque converter automatic, replacing the older 6-speed unit. Torque converter automatics are smoother in stop-go traffic than dual-clutch boxes. For someone who commutes in Bengaluru or Delhi daily, this is a meaningful change, not just a spec sheet bump.
Manual gearbox buyers get a 6-speed unit with the 1.0L. The more powerful 1.5-litre TSI (148hp, 250Nm) continues with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic. But here is the catch: the 1.5L is only available on the top GT Plus trim variants. If you want that engine, be prepared to spend at least Rs 19.3 lakh.
Claimed fuel efficiency sits between 18.85 and 19.98kmpl across variants, though real-world city figures will be lower.
Interior and Features: Bigger Screens, Panoramic Sunroof, Ventilated Seats
The dashboard layout stays familiar, but the screens are bigger and better. You now get a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster in place of the older analogue dials. The infotainment upgrades to a 10.1-inch unit with wireless Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and an AI assistant powered by Google Cloud.
Higher variants bring a panoramic sunroof, 6-way power-adjustable ventilated front seats, rear seat massage function, wireless charging, ambient lighting, and a rear-view camera. Six upholstery options are available, including both fabric and leatherette. The cabin genuinely feels updated, not just reshuffled.
Safety across all variants includes six airbags, ABS, EBD, ESC, and brake assist. ADAS features are reserved for the top trims.
2026 Volkswagen Taigun Variants and Prices
Volkswagen has spread the Taigun across seven trims. Here is how the pricing stacks up (ex-showroom):
Comfortline 1.0 MT: Rs 11 lakh. Base entry point, seven-inch touchscreen, no connected LED bar, no illuminated logo.
Highline 1.0 MT: Rs 12.70 lakh. Jumps to 10.1-inch wireless touchscreen, full LED headlamps with DRLs, and ambient lighting. 8-speed AT is Rs 13.85 lakh.
Highline Plus 1.0 MT: Rs 14.30 lakh. Adds single-pane sunroof, push-button start, auto headlamps, rain-sensing wipers, digital cluster, and wireless charging. AT version is Rs 15.45 lakh.
GT Line 1.0 MT: Rs 14.60 lakh. Sporty body kit over the Highline Plus. Same features but with black alloys, red ambient lighting, metal pedals, and blacked-out exterior elements. AT version is Rs 15.75 lakh.
Topline 1.0 MT: Rs 16 lakh. Gets leatherette seats, panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, and 6-way powered front seat. AT is Rs 17.18 lakh.
GT Plus Chrome and GT Plus Sport: Rs 19.3 lakh. Only variants with the 1.5L TSI and 7-speed DSG. Full feature load including ADAS and rear seat massage.
Volkswagen Taigun vs Rivals
The Taigun's direct cousin, the Skoda Kushaq facelift, starts at Rs 10.69 lakh. That is Rs 31,000 cheaper at entry level. Both share the same platform and engines. The Kushaq also gets a rear seat massage function across more variants. If badge loyalty is not a factor for you, the Kushaq is worth a test drive alongside the Taigun.
The Renault Duster, just launched at Rs 10.49–18.49 lakh, is the other close competitor on price. It brings a different character: more road-trip oriented, with a stronger ride over bad roads. The Taigun counters with sharper steering and a more polished cabin finish.
Against the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos, the Taigun trades feature abundance for driving quality. The Germans engineer this car to feel planted at highway speeds in a way that the Korean rivals do not quite match. That is a trade-off worth knowing going in.
2026 Volkswagen Taigun Facelift Buyback Offer: 75% of Ex-Showroom Price, But Act Before May 31
Volkswagen is offering a 75 percent residual value guarantee on the Taigun facelift. It is valid for bookings made on or before May 31, 2026, and covers usage up to 3 years or 30,000km. On a Highline Plus AT at Rs 15.45 lakh, that is a buyback floor of roughly Rs 11.59 lakh. For a first-time buyer worried about depreciation on a German brand, this is a genuine safety net.
Bookings are open at Rs 11,000. Deliveries have begun.
Buyer Note
Skip the Comfortline. It misses the connected LED bar, the illuminated logo, and the 10.1-inch screen. For Rs 1.7 lakh more, the Highline is a far more complete package for the money.
The Highline Plus AT at Rs 15.45 lakh is the sweet spot for most buyers. You get the 8-speed gearbox, wireless connectivity, sunroof, digital cluster, and wireless charging. Nothing feels missing in daily use.
Want sporty looks without the top-spec price? The GT Line AT at Rs 15.75 lakh adds the blacked-out treatment and sportier exterior details over the Highline Plus. It costs Rs 30,000 more and looks sharper on the road.
Only stretch to the GT Plus if you specifically want the 1.5L engine. That extra power is genuinely enjoyable on highways. But be aware: there is no manual option at the top, and the Rs 19.3 lakh price brings you close to better-equipped rivals.
