A new car launch usually means one thing for your wallet: pay more. The 2026 Tata Tiago EV does the opposite.

2026 Tata Tiago EV Facelift Launched and It Is More Affordable Now

Tata Motors launched the Tata Tiago EV facelift at Rs 6.99 lakh (ex-showroom). The old Tiago EV started at Rs 7.99 lakh. So the entry price just dropped by a full lakh. The fully loaded version now tops out at Rs 9.99 lakh, down from Rs 11.14 lakh before. A newer, better-equipped car for less money. Read that twice.

There's a cheaper way in, too. Tata's Battery-as-a-Service plan starts the Tiago EV at Rs 4.69 lakh, where you buy the car but rent the battery at Rs 2.6 per kilometre. That undercuts even the MG Comet EV.

2026 Tata Tiago EV Price: What You Actually Get for Less

This isn't a sticker swap. The cabin has been redone with a free-standing 10.25-inch touchscreen, a digital driver's display, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, rear AC vents, a cooled glovebox and two wireless charging pads. Cruise control and a rotary drive selector are in now too.

Safety is where the jump is biggest. Six airbags are standard, replacing the old two-airbag setup. You also get a 360-degree camera, a blind-view monitor, ESP, hill-hold and TPMS. Tata says the body shell is stiffer for better crash protection.

Tata Tiago EV Range: The Number Tata Usually Hides

Here's the part most launches skip. Tata is now quoting real-world range, not just the lab figure.

The 24 kWh battery claims 285 km on the MIDC cycle. But Tata's own real-world estimate? 205 to 215 km. The smaller 19.2 kWh pack claims 226 km and delivers a real 160 to 170 km. That honesty is rare, and it saves you the nasty surprise three weeks into ownership.

Charging is quicker now too. Tata says it adds 100 km in 18 minutes, and a 30 kW DC fast charger takes either battery from 10 to 80 percent in 35 minutes. Home charging runs on a 3.3 kW or 7.2 kW AC setup.

Tata Tiago EV Battery Warranty: One Reason to Stretch for the 24 kWh

The 24 kWh version gets a lifetime, unlimited-kilometre warranty on the battery for the first owner. The battery is the single most expensive part of any EV. A lifetime cover on it changes the long-term maths completely. The 19.2 kWh pack settles for 8 years or 1.6 lakh km, which is still generous.

The bigger battery also does 0 to 60 kph in 5.7 seconds and makes 75 hp, against 62 hp for the smaller one. For city use, either is plenty. For peace of mind, the 24 kWh is the one to reach for.

So who is this for? If you've waited for an electric car that costs less than a mid-spec petrol hatch and won't scare you with battery bills later, this is it. The Tiago EV stays India's cheapest electric car, and it just got harder to argue against.

Tata isn't done. The Tata Sierra EV is next in line. But for anyone shopping under Rs 10 lakh today, the Tiago EV just reset the bar.
