Tips for Protecting Your Car During This Heatwave Alert!

The heatwaves in northern India are at full swing now, with the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) informing that the temperature would increase up to 45°C. This weather update is not only bad news for you, but also for your car/vehicle. In these conditions, below are some tips to help you maintain your car in the scorching heat.

Pollution in the Capital, does not seem to help with the increasing tempratures, but these points will-

Air conditioning servicing

The Air Conditioning System of a car is something that needs to be functioning well, given the temperature rise. Now, if the air conditioner is not serviced well before its increased usage, it can cause trouble later. The AC in the car needs regular maintenance, otherwise it can cause more pressure on the engine, leading to the use of excessive oil.
One tip to make sure a well-serviced AC and engine is not pressured too much is to open the windows of the car a little, to cool the cabin a bit before switching the AC on.

Check tyre pressure

The tires are the car's first point of contact on the road, thus, making them an essential part of the vehicle, but also the most neglected part. Chances are bright that most car owners don’t know the ideal tyre pressure. The instruction manual that comes with the car mentions a thumb rule, i.e. to increase the tyre pressure by 47- 95 kPa (kilopascals) every 10 degree celsius.

Importance of coolant

The car's coolant circulates around the engine to keep the temperature regulated in excessive heat. It basically cools the engine and avoids the overheating of the same. The coolant keeps the engine from straining and makes it run smoothly. The vehicle's air conditioner will also be impacted if the coolant level is not kept steady.

Battery maintenance

Battery maintenance is, in general, a very important part of the car upkeep. During heat waves and increased temperatures, though, car batteries need more attention. With high temperatures, chemical reactions increase, and so does the evaporation of fluid, which can lead to the failure of the battery. So to make sure that the battery remains cool, you should avoid overcharging, and to increase the life of the batteries, you should follow smart charging habits.
