Volkswagen Golf GTI Launches This May 2025: What to Expect!
Volkswagen Golf GTI badge to come to India for the first time - featuring bold design, advanced tech, and limited availability.

Volkswagen to enter the premium hatchback segment in India by introducing the Volkswagen Golf GST in May next month. This is the first official launch of the GTI badge in India. The car will come to India as a Completely Built Unit (CBU), with limited availability, under the Indian government's special rule that allows up to 2,500 cars to be sold without extra testing. The car is expected to be priced between ₹45 lakh and ₹50 lakh.
About the Vehicle
Golf GTI features a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine delivering massive 265 PS power and 370 Nm torque. This engine is paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch auto transmission (DCT), which allows the car to achieve the 0-100 kmph run in 5.9 seconds. The front-wheel drive configuration and proprietary steering system are said to provide an intense handling experience, while the variable suspension, as an option, adds a smooth ride. The Golf GTI also gets an electronic front-wheel controller for better handling.

The outside of the Golf GTI has a sporty look with 18-inch 'Richmond' diamond-cut alloy wheels and GTI badges on the body. The grille at the front is bold with enormous air intakes and a red strip, a typical marker of the GTI family. The rear of the car features two exhaust pipes and a sports roof spoiler. Inside, it has an upper-class feel with exclusive pattern seat cloth, a 12.9-inch information and entertainment touchscreen, and an exclusive GTI digital instrument cluster. Other amenities include wireless phone charging, mood lighting, and a red-flashing start button.
Safety and high-end features
The Golf GTI is equipped with six airbags, tyre pressure monitoring, and driver assistance systems (ADAS) such as adaptive cruise control and emergency braking. The safety features give drivers as well as passengers confidence, and it is an overall worthy package. The Golf GTI will compete with the likes of Mini Cooper S and Skoda Octavia RS when it enters the Indian lineup in the performance hatchback segment.
Volkswagen's foray into the performance hatchback segment with the Golf GTI will bring in a mix of healthy performance, state-of-the-art technology, and premium design. Car enthusiasts can celebrate as the Golf GTI finally makes it to Indian roads.
