VinFast VF6: Vietnam's Electric SUV Gets Ready for India

VinFast has decided to step into the Indian Electric Vehicle Market in 2025. The company seems to have big plans for the future in the electric vehicle segment of India, as it has set up a factory in Tamil Nadu. The first car that VinFast has decided to introduce in the Indian market is the VF6, a small electric SUV that’s quite different from what we're used to.

The VF6 doesn't look like your typical SUV. It's not trying to be tough or bulky. Instead, it goes for a smoother, car-like shape that's easy on the eyes. The front has the usual electric car look - no big grille, just clean lines and sharp LED lights. There's a V-shaped light strip that runs into the hood, which is a nice way to show the VinFast brand without being too loud about it. The back keeps things simple too - connected tail lights, a small spoiler, and wheels that look good when the car is moving.

The interior of the car might have something missing - there's no gauge cluster behind the steering wheel. The big 12.9-inch screen in the middle, though, displays almost everything: speed, battery level, directions - it's all there. The whole cabin is designed to feel clean and uncluttered. The steering wheel is flat at the bottom with just two spokes. To shift gears, one has to use buttons instead of levers.

The VF6 provides a nice and ample amount of space inside the cabin. Five adults can sit comfortably, thanks to the flat floor that gives more foot space. Even with the sloping roof, there's decent headroom in the back. A tall person can sit behind another tall person without feeling cramped. The boot holds 423 liters with all seats up, and loading stuff is easy because of the low, flat opening.

VinFast offers the VF6 in two versions - Eco and Plus. Both use the same 59.6 kWh battery but deliver different amounts of power. The Eco version makes 174 PS and can go up to 399 km on a full charge. The Plus is stronger at 201 PS and 310 Nm but uses more power, giving you 381 km of range. Both can fast-charge from 20 to 80 percent in about 30 minutes using a DC charger. In city driving, one can probably choose based on how often you want to plug in rather than how fast you want to go.

Safety is where the VF6 stands out. It has 7 airbags, ABS, and stability control as expected. But it also comes with advanced driver aids like adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping help, collision warnings, and a 360-degree camera system. For a car expected to cost around Rs 25 lakh, that's impressive. With India paying more attention to safety ratings and tech features, this could help the VF6 stand out from the crowd.

The VinFast VF6 isn't trying to please everyone. It doesn't pretend to be a tough off-roader. It doesn't cover itself in shiny bits or pack in useless features. Instead, it focuses on doing the important stuff well - different styling, useful tech, practical space, and safety features that matter. It might not chase after every buyer in the market. Instead, it seems happy to create its little corner. Whether Indian car buyers are ready for this kind of electric SUV remains to be seen. But the VF6 has everyone’s interest.
