Tata Motors Experiences Minimal Sales Decline in March 2025; FY25 Registers 4% Decline
Tata Motors Sales Struggle in FY25 – A Closer Look at the Numbers

Tata Motors has announced its sales for the month of March 2025, recording a minimal decline in domestic sales. The company registered sales of 90,500 units, recording a 0.3% decline from 90,822 units sold during March 2024. Of greater concern is the overall sales of Tata in FY25, which declined by 4% from 9,49,015 units sold in FY24 to 9,12,155 units.
Passenger Vehicle Segment: Muted Performance
Tata's PV sales, including electric vehicles increased 3% YoY in March at 51,872 units (compared to 50,297 units in March 2024). The rise came after a 9% decline in February, showcasing market volatility.
In the full FY25, PV sales fell by 3%, at 5,56,263 units vs 5,73,495 units in FY24.
Electric Vehicles Take a Hit
The most worrying one is Tata's electric vehicle (EV) sales, which dipped 21% YoY in March 2025 to 5,353 units from 6,738 units in March 2024. Yearly EV sales also slipped by 13%, down to 64,276 units from 73,833 units in the earlier year.
Commercial Vehicles Suffer a Slump
• Tata's commercial vehicle (CV) business also fared poorly:
• March 2025 CV sales: 41,122 units (down 3% from 42,262 in March 2024)
• FY25 CV sales: 3,76,903 units (declined 5% from 3,95,845 in FY24)
Some sub-segments, however, demonstrated strength:
• Heavy commercial trucks increased 1% with 12,856 units shipped
• Intermediate & light medium CVs rose 6% to 7,181 units
• Passenger carriers rose 4% to 6,088 units
• Small commercial vehicles & pickups dropped 17% to 12,759 units
Final Thoughts
While Tata Motors PV segment remained stable, EV sales were poor, and overall FY25 figures declined. The brand will have to overcome these issues to maintain its market share in the next few months.
