Tata Readies All-New Harrier and Safari to Tackle the Competition

Tata Motors is planning big changes for its Tata Harrier and Tata Safari SUVs. Word on the street is they're developing next-generation models, internally known as "Tauras" and "Leo," to address shortcomings in the current lineup and better compete with rivals like the Mahindra XUV700 and Scorpio N.

Currently, both Harrier and Safari ride on a platform derived from Land Rover tech and only offer a single diesel engine option. Critically, the Safari lacks a proper four-wheel-drive system, a feature many enthusiasts crave.

The big news? Tata is reportedly ditching the current platform for a new modular design. This would enable a wider range of powertrains including petrol, diesel and even electric versions. Crucially, it would also pave the way for all-wheel-drive, which fans have been clamoring for. Sources suggest the new platform could also mean increased vehicle length, creating even more interior space.

This move makes complete sense. The market demands variety, and a flexible platform is essential for future electrification and offering appealing drivetrain options. While a complete redesign is still some time away, it signals Tata's commitment to staying competitive in the ever-evolving SUV market. Watch this space.
