Mahindra Thar: Convertible Soft-Top Variants Discontinued

Mahindra has significantly altered its Thar SUV range, with the automaker halting production of the convertible soft-top models along with certain 4WD models. This reduces the overall count of Thar variants, simplifying the offering to meet market demand and production efficiency.

The most noticeable change is the dropping of the soft-top models, with both AX(O) and LX trims featuring the soft-top roof now discontinued. Both these models had been priced in the range of ₹14.49 lakh and ₹17.29 lakh (ex-showroom). The open differential-equipped AX(O) 4WD and LX variants have also been discontinued, along with the soft-top variants. This change leaves the Thar with a more concentrated range, available only with a fixed hardtop across all variants.

Due to these changes, the overall count of Thar variants is now down from 19 to 11, and prices are still the same. The Thar is now available in a price bracket between ₹11.50 lakh and ₹17.60 lakh (ex-showroom). Customers can continue to opt for the current hardtop variants, but the possibility of an open-air experience with the soft-top is now available only through aftermarket modifications or other variants.

Although the causes of discontinuation are speculative, market demand for the soft-top variants in the market would most likely have been a primary factor. The transition also coincides with Mahindra's plans to rationalize its manufacturing and offer a better lineup with minimal redundancy. Mahindra also reportedly works on a 2026 facelifted Thar that might bring other design and feature revisions to the SUV.

For those keen on the convertible soft-top, one should confirm through local dealers for available stocks, as these variants have now officially ended production. As Mahindra launches the fresh Thar facelift with an upgraded portfolio, it strives to present an even more sharpened and concise range that could satisfy the interests of off-roading fans as well as maintain the adventurous stance of the car.
