Mahindra M12Electro Formula E Car Uncovered
Can Mahindra's fierce new M12Electro Formula E car secure a top-three finish? Explore the tech behind India's only world championship team.

Mahindra Racing has uncovered its striking new M12Electro Formula E car. Signalling its intent to break into the championship's top three after a remarkable competitive resurgence. The Anglo-Indian team, fresh off a season where it scored more points than the previous three years combined, hopes this evolved machine will write the next successful chapter in its electric racing journey.
A Design That Screams Electric
The M12Electro makes a visual statement with its assertive metallic red, gloss white and carbon black livery. This isn't just for show; the design reflects a team with renewed confidence. The livery features 12 distinct stripes, a proud nod to each year Mahindra has competed in the Formula E World Championship since its inception.
Adding to the sense of national pride is an Indian flag motif, reminding fans that this is the only Indian team competing at the world championship level in motorsport. It’s a car designed to look as fast and purposeful as it performs on track.
More Than Just a Pretty Face
So, what's actually new on the car that matters for performance? After the major hardware overhaul for the previous season, the team is focusing on evolution and refinement. The M12Electro benefits from significant software updates and subtle tweaks to the GEN3 Evo package that the team spent the summer refining.
Team Principal Frederic Bertrand calls it a continuation of the progress that saw them secure five podium finishes last season. The goal is to convert those strong finishes into race wins. As driver Nyck de Vries notes, with everyone clustering closer in performance in the final year of this car generation, mastering the small details is what will provide a competitive edge.
The Drivers Behind the Wheel
Mahindra is sticking with its proven lineup for a third consecutive season. The team will once again be piloted by the experienced duo of Nyck de Vries and Edoardo Mortara. Between them, they bring a wealth of knowledge with 181 race starts, 10 wins, and 22 podiums.
They will be supported by Kush Maini, who continues as Reserve Driver. Maini, one of India's brightest single-seater talents, will take on an increased role at races and participate in rookie tests and practice sessions.
From Track to Street
The technology developed for the M12Electro isn't just for winning races; it's a high-speed laboratory for Mahindra's road-going electric vehicles. The team is strengthening its "Race to Road" program, and the M12Electro now proudly carries the company's Born EV logo, also seen on consumer models like the BE 6 and XEV 9e.
This technical connection is further amplified by a new partnership with Valvoline Global Operations. The collaboration will focus on developing advanced e-fluids and gearbox technologies designed to boost performance, efficiency and durability. Lessons that will benefit electric mobility far beyond the racetrack.
The Road Ahead
Mahindra's ambition for the season is clear: challenge for a top-three position in the teams' championship. This confidence follows a stellar Season 11 where the team rocketed up the standings, finishing fourth overall and tripling its points tally from the year before. The team secured five podium finishes in iconic cities like Monaco, Jakarta and London, proving its return to form was no fluke.
The M12Electro will have its first track test at the official Formula E pre-season test in Valencia from October 27-31. The season then kicks off in earnest with the São Paulo E-Prix on December 6, where the world will see if Mahindra's electric roar can be translated into championship glory.
