Honda ZR-V Launched in India Today: But Honda Played a Deliberate Move

Honda just did something Indian carmakers almost never do. The ZR-V was officially premiered in India this afternoon, bookings opened at dealerships, and the launch event covered features, specs and design at length. But the one number every buyer in the room wanted to hear was never said out loud. The price.

It is a deliberate move. Honda has confirmed the Honda ZR-V will be priced closer to deliveries, which begin in the second half of July. It arrives as a limited-run CBU from Japan, brought in under the 2,500-unit homologation rule. So the volume stays tight. Industry estimates put the sticker at ₹40 to ₹50 lakh ex-showroom, which would slot the ZR-V squarely against the Volkswagen Tayron R-Line and the Skoda Kodiaq. Whether Honda actually undercuts them is the most interesting question in the segment right now.

What the Honda ZR-V Brings That Nothing Else in Honda's India Lineup Has

This is the first 2.0-litre strong-hybrid powertrain Honda has sold in India. The setup makes 141bhp and 186Nm from the engine, while the electric motor pushes a combined 181bhp and 315Nm. That gets the SUV from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.9 seconds, and Honda claims 22.8 kmpl. Real-world numbers on full-hybrid SUVs usually land a few kmpl below the lab figure in mixed driving, so plan accordingly.

There is no petrol-only or diesel variant. The Honda ZR-V comes as a hybrid, period. That is a bold call in a segment where the Tayron and Kodiaq still lean on turbo-petrol.

Honda ZR-V Features: Bose, 8 Airbags, Gesture Tailgate

The kit list is where the ZR-V earns its flagship badge. Inside you get a 12-speaker Bose sound system, panoramic sunroof, powered front row with memory for the driver, dual-zone climate control, a 10-inch digital instrument cluster, a 9-inch touchscreen with wireless connectivity, 360-degree camera and a gesture-controlled powered tailgate. The boot opens up to 1,313 litres with the rear seats folded down.

Safety is just as serious. Honda Sensing Level 2 ADAS is standard, paired with eight airbags, ABS with EBD, vehicle stability management, hill-start assist and hill-descent control. That is a generous airbag count even at the ₹50 lakh price band Honda appears to be targeting.

Why the Missing Honda ZR-V Price Actually Tells a Story

Here is what most coverage today will gloss over. A CBU import in limited batches means Honda is not chasing volume on the ZR-V. It will sit at the top of Honda's portfolio and become the brand's new flagship offering, much like how Toyota positions the Vellfire in India. Holding the price reveal until closer to July also gives Honda flexibility on currency and import-cost movement before the sticker gets locked in.

If you have ₹40 lakh budgeted for a premium SUV, bookings are open at Honda dealerships from today, in four colour options. Just be ready for the price to land closer to your delivery date, not your booking date.
