BYD Sealion 7: First Electric SUV in India with 11 Airbags Launches

BYD launched the Sealion 7 as a new benchmark in safety with India's first electric SUV with 11 airbags. The car is available at a price of ₹48.9 lakh (ex-showroom) with Premium and Performance versions. Deliveries started on March 7, 2025, after its unveiling at the 2025 Bharat Mobility Show.

The car features an 82.5 kWh LFP Blade battery, with astonishing range figures of 567 km for the Premium and 542 km for the Performance variant on a single charge. The Performance variant features an all-wheel-drive setup with 523 bhp, taking standstill to 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds. The models feature a 7 kW AC charger and a 6-year/150,000 km battery warranty.

Safety is among the selling features of the Sealion 7. Apart from its record 11 airbags, the SUV features a Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) with automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, and adaptive cruise control. The safety package further features a 360-degree camera, front and rear parking sensors, hill-hold control, and ISOFIX child seat anchors.

Its interior is also high-end with a 15.6-inch rotatable touchscreen entertainment system, Nappa leather seats, ventilated features, a panoramic sunroof, and a 12-speaker sound system. Its all-black interior color scheme gives it a more elegant look.

In the premium electric SUV segment, Sealion 7 is locked in a battle with the veteran competitors such as Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6. BYD has already received over 1,000 bookings, which is a good initial interest as the company is looking to make some noise in the growing electric car market in India.
