SUV buyers have received welcome news as the Mahindra Thar Roxx waiting period has decreased substantially to 4-6 months, following the company's efforts to increase manufacturing output. This represents a considerable improvement from the previous wait times that extended to 18 months for certain models in 2024.
Recent information indicates that Mahindra has boosted production capacity to meet the growing demand for the Thar Roxx SUV after its launch this year. The shorter waiting times reflect the company's broader initiative to enhance delivery schedules across the entire Thar range.
Mahindra currently manufactures around 4,000 Thar Roxx units monthly, an increase from its previous limited production caused by supply chain issues and overwhelming demand. Dealer network sources indicate that better component availability and improved distribution processes have helped reduce the order backlog.
The production increase has been strategically planned to match the rising demand for mid-range and higher-specification versions of the Thar Roxx, especially the MX3, MX5, and AX3 L models. These versions now arrive within about 4 months, while the basic MX1 and premium AX7 L models still require around 6 months.
The reduced waiting times vary across different versions. Mid-tier options like the MX3 and AX3 L receive priority due to higher customer preference. Buyers choosing the entry-level MX1 or top-tier AX7 L models may need to wait slightly longer because of slower production schedules for these particular trims.
In the meantime, the 3-door Thar, still available in addition to the Roxx version, has even faster delivery times. Diesel rear-wheel-drive 3-door models now deliver within 2 months to most areas, while petrol models can take a few more weeks. Overall sales of the entire Thar lineup, including both 3-door and 5-door Roxx variants, have now crossed 2.6 lakh units since the initial launch in August 2020, according to recent industry reports. The Roxx has helped considerably with increased growth by drawing a wider customer base with its improved practicality and off-road performance.
The five-door, more feature-laden Roxx model has helped Mahindra tap the untapped segment of urban buyers wanting ruggedness along with family space. Experts in the industry are of the opinion that sustaining the production level currently can decrease the Thar Roxx waiting time to as little as 3-4 months for most of the variants by the third quarter of fiscal year 2025.
Also, Mahindra is said to be contemplating further production enhancement at its flagship manufacturing plants in Chakan and Nashik to meet demand across its SUV lineup, including the Scorpio-N and XUV700, which also have waiting times running into months. Nowadays, prospective Thar Roxx buyers can expect much less waiting time than they did earlier in the year, especially for mid-spec variants. Major cities and Tier-1 dealerships have begun to communicate these revised delivery timelines to new customers.
The enhanced delivery timeline is part of a broader industry trend wherein manufacturers are recovering from the effects of the pandemic, streamlining parts procurement, and processing distribution in a better way. Tata, Hyundai, and Maruti Suzuki have also similarly shortened delivery timelines for best-sellers over the past few months.
